2019 American Reportage Storytelling Grant

SUBMISSIONS OPEN SOON • DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS TO BE ANNOUNCED

While the future of photojournalism and documentation of the American experience lies with the next generation of visual journalists. it is the responsibility of today’s professionals to nurture and support their development.

The American Reportage Storytelling Grant is awarded annually to a college senior enrolled in a visual journalism curriculum or to a recent graduate who has not accepted a job as a full-time visual journalist.

The 2019 Storytelling Grant award is $3,000.00

In addition to the monetary award, American Reportage offers the following benefits to the recipient:

  • Grant recipient retains full copyright to images created under the grant.
  • Photo editing assistance and overall project guidance from our members.
  • Space on the American Reportage website to showcase the progress of the project as well as the finished work.
  • When complete, American Reportage will work with the recipient to have the story published.

REQUIREMENTS

A Resume or Bio (in PDF format) not to exceed 2 pages. Name the file with your first and last name and use an underscore to separate the names. At the end of the filename add BIO (ex: Firstname_Lastname-BIO.pdf).

The project proposal (in PDF format)  not to exceed 2 pages. Name the file with your first and last name and use an underscore to separate the names. At the end of the filename add PROPOSAL (ex: Firstname_Lastname-PROPOSAL.pdf).

This proposal should be titled and lead with a one paragraph summary of the project which should be consistent with the mission of American Reportage. The applicant must affirm that the proposed project is ongoing.

A portfolio consisting of up to twenty (20) photographs. The images should demonstrate the applicant’s ability to accomplish the proposed project.

If the project has not begun, the applicant may submit photos unrelated to the proposed project, but they must have been taken within the past two (2) years. There is no time limit on pictures that relate directly to the story proposal.
