Former President George H.W. Bush Dies

Pete Marovich on assignment for the New York Times

I was hired by the New York Times as part of their team covering the events around the State Funeral of former President George H.W. Bush who passed away on November 30, 2018, at the age of 94.

My assignment was covering the arrival of the former president’s casket at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., and the arrival of the family and Members of Congress for a ceremony. After the ceremony and a reset of the area around the casket, I spent about 4 hours documenting the arrival of the general public as they filed past the casket to pay their respects.

When I left at about 11pm that night, there were still a couple of thousand people still standing in line outside of the Capitol to honor the late president.
